Phonics Book

Phonics are the sounds associated with letters. There are 26 letters in the English language but there are many more sounds. There are around 42 phonics that we use in English.

Focusing on learning letter phonics rather than letter names help children to learn how to read much quicker.

We will be focusing on two phonics each day. We will be uploading audio files onto this website to serve as models for the various sounds associated with the letters.

In recording the audio clips the following format was used: I say the letter sound (phonic) twice, followed by three words that use that particular phonic and then I finish with the phonic by itself one last time.
In addition to the audio clips the children are encouraged to learn the action for each sound. This helps memorisation.

Here is a link to an online copy of the phonics book we will be using during the first three weeks. You may download and print additional copies if you wish.
